Bandau’s chief aim in this sculpture is to explore the mode of perception.
In the Seventies, Joachim Bandau explored the theme of the bunker – through drawings at first, and later three-dimensionally. This work comprises three complementary columns which, combined, could form a single massive one.
Bandau’s chief aim in this sculpture is to explore the mode of perception. To what extent can internal structures be perceived? To what extent can they be read? Contrasts such as inside and outside, removal and addition, completion and splitting play a key role in this work. Its form is constructive, but it also evokes associations with towers and skyscrapers.
