A new perspective
The museum collection dates back to 1870. It therefore contains many works by male white artists. Their naked female figures display a traditional male view. Time to break open that perspective!
In this life drawing workshop, in partnership with Antwerp Queer Arts Festival, you see models from a queer perspective. Artist Caro Orcaro, known for her Queer Love Drawing workshops, gets you looking with new eyes at the human body in three sessions. Each one from a different perspective and in collaboration with queer artists from AntwerpQueer Arts Festival.
Who is portraying whom?
This is not a traditional drawing lesson. Caro explores what the participants can mean to each other as a group. There is also attention for the process. Who is really being portrayed, and what is your role as an artist?
Queer life drawing is gaining international ground. The sessions create a safe space for a diversity of bodies. These workshops are part of the research by the Middelheim Museum into gender, sexuality and nakedness in art. They are accessible to all those who wish to support queer practices or strengthen their relationship with them.
