The life of an artwork
For our 75th anniversary at the Middelheim Museum we have made exclusive Artist Posters about two key works in the collection, together with the artists. Using text and image, these posters give you a deeper look at the creation process. Pick them up free of charge in the collection pavilion and give art a home in yours!
The works you see in the art park are the end results. Often, they have undergone an entire process to become what you see today. What is the story behind the flag artwork 'Voor alle seizoenen' (2015) by Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven? And what is the meaning of the colourful sculptures 'FOOR AZART - FAIRGROUND AZART' (1989) by Guy Rombouts & Monica Droste, a little further along? The Artist Posters guide you through the life and invisible ideas behind both works.
In the collection pavilion
Not surprisingly, you will find the posters in the collection pavilion. After all, this is where the treasures are kept at the Middelheim Museum. Here, you see fragile or small sculptures and a selection from the support collections, such as models, drawings, letters and graphics. They provide more context and explanation for the works in the park. Just like the posters do.
This summer, artists take turns selecting from the art books in our library. Guy Rombouts’ selection can be found in the collection pavilion until September 30th. In addition, the artist has also curated a display case in which he shares a number of artworks and editions from his personal collection with the public. Finally, he created a drawing on the window featuring the word MIDDELHEIM.
