DE SOKKEL #1

8 May until 11 September 2011

The Klein Antwerp community association and Middelheimproductie have joined forces to add a cultural dimension to the city park.

The city park in Antwerp is a pleasant, green space where city dwellers like to relax. The Klein Antwerpen community association and Middelheimproductie will join forces as of this summer to add a cultural dimension to the park.

There are several dozens of sculptures in this public space, but one plinth has been empty for quite some time now. The two partners have taken the initiative to invite significant, international artists twice a year to make this plinth or “de sokkel” relevant again.

These interventions will fuel the discussion about the role of art in public space as well as drawing the attention of the neighbourhood/city residents to this historically valuable city park again.

Henk Visch (b. 1950, The Netherlands) kicked off the series with his sculpture Noch Einmal, a key work in his career.
