Rolling tears
Monster Chetwynd aims to set things in motion with her work: to spark new experiences, feelings and meanings. She does so quite literally in Tears (2021). The installation features a giant eye with a tear, inside which zorbs roll — human-sized transparent spheres you can climb into and move around in. In this way, visual art merges with dance and play.
The rolling spheres evoke other kinds of tears. Tears of sadness — or perhaps of joy? The tension between laughter and tears, between lightness and intensity, gives the work a theatrical quality. On most afternoons, especially at weekends, you can step into a zorb yourself and join the movement. Of course, you can also simply watch.
