From frame to composition
Do you know the silver palm trees in the Middelheim Museum? Or the bright blue sculpture with two figures dancing or fighting? These were made by Peter Rogiers (1967, Belgium). The artist mainly makes sculptures, but is also an expert in drawing and graphics. His work is filled with art-historic and cultural references.
Peter’s drawing class begins with the technical basics of drawing, just like a sculptor starts by making a kind of frame and then builds up the figure. Drawing a life model? Focus first on the larger structure and tension. Then translate this into a compelling composition allowing interpretation and interplay.
