Policy
Our film and photography policy was established to protect the artworks in the Middelheim Museum. It also enables us to ensure proper organization. Additionally, we make sure that the shoots do not interfere with other events.
Guidelines for photo and film
- Please adhere to our house rules.
- The shoot must take place during the museum park's opening hours.
- Help us preserve the artworks in optimal condition. Do not touch them, climb on them, place objects on them, or expose them to interventions that could have a negative impact (e.g., smoke machines)...
- Filming or photographing should not cause inconvenience to the staff and visitors of the museum park/exhibitions/entrances/exits/passages, and busy locations such as the Middelheim Castle hall. Artworks must not be claimed and must remain visible (or accessible, if applicable) to park visitors at all times.
- Shoots involving nudity are not allowed.
- Unfortunately, we cannot provide space for dressing, make-up, and styling.
- Markings on paths or trees are not permitted.
- Parking in the park or driving on the grass is not allowed. Loading and unloading can only be done via existing roads. After loading and unloading, vehicles must be parked outside the park.
- All litter generated by the shoot must be cleaned up afterwards.
- Please mention that the shoot took place at the "Middelheim Museum Antwerp".
- The Middelheim Museum and the city of Antwerp reserve the right, at their discretion, to allow or deny a film or photo shoot. Museum staff are instructed to approach film and photo shoots that have not been pre-approved by the museum. If the shoot does not comply with the film and photography policy of the museum/city of Antwerp, they will halt the shoot.
Taking and sharing photos
Of course, you can take photos in the museum and share them on social media, blogs, and websites for non-commercial purposes. However, please note that most artworks are protected by copyright. In many cases, you need the permission of the artist or a management company to reproduce the works. You are always responsible for obtaining this permission yourself. Unfortunately, the Middelheim Museum cannot handle individual requests for arranging copyright permissions.
Non-commercial photography and film
This includes photos or videos that are not published, sold, reproduced, distributed, or otherwise used for commercial purposes. Examples include wedding photos, school projects, and amateur photography.
Planning a photo shoot in the museum? Please inform us of your plans in advance via middelheimmuseum@antwerpen.be. We will check our calendar to ensure there are no other shoots or events taking place at the same time.
Commercial photography and film shoots
For commercial film and photo shoots, you must first submit an application to the film office of the city of Antwerp (www.antwerpen.be/filmcel). You will receive approval or denial for your shoot and will also be informed whether you need to pay a fee for it.
If the shoot is approved, you can then make further arrangements with the museum via middelheimmuseum@antwerpen.be.
