Artistic Research Project

The Middelheim Museum launched its first Artistic Research Project in 2022. Two artists, each from their own art practice, explore a particular topic from the museum's perspective. For the first edition, Wendy Morris and Gosie Vervloessem are studying the art landscape and the relationship between art and nature at the Middelheim Museum.

Middelheim Museum initiates a major expansion of its collection

Thanks to collaborative ventures and the implementation of measures in support of the sector, the Middelheim Museum was able to diversify and give a significant boost to its collection in 2021. No fewer than 43 new works of art by 35 different artists were collected in 2021 together with the Flemish Community, the city of Antwerp and the Middelheim Promotors. The museum thus strengthens its unique position as a collecting institution for contemporary outdoor sculpture.

The selection

The artworks in the collection pavilion were selected not only for their art-historical value, but on the basis of seven different criteria.

The building

Stéphane Beel’s closed depot building was converted into a public space that strengthens the relationship between art, architecture and nature.

The depot collections

Middelheim Museum has collected many works that are not suited to or are less suitable for presentation in the park and therefore remain largely hidden.

Discover the collection pavilion online

In the new collection pavilion, you can (re)discover hidden works of art from the collection of Middelheim Museum. These works are less suitable, or sometimes unsuitable, for presentation in the park.

Map

The park covers a surface area of 30 hectares. You will need to take a proper look at the map to find your bearings!
