For his exhibition in the public space of Antwerp, artist Ken Lum creates a new series of billboards that question our relationship to work.

Resonance

Resonance is a temporary sculpture and series of performances by artist Germaine Kruip. It is presented in Antwerp Central Station and revisits the ongoing impact of the past through sound and space.

The open air storage is where sculptures are kept, permanently or temporarily, when they can no longer be shown in public space proper.

The ambition to make information about the Antwerp Public Art Collection accessible to the public and art professionals, gives rise to a focus on research, debate and reflection.

Leopold II: 1873-2020

On 9 June 2020, a statue of King Leopold II (1835-1909) was removed from the public space of Ekeren, Antwerp, where it had stood since 1873. Its removal was a highly charged occurrence and led to numerous questions being addressed at the museum. The below text contains the answer to some of those questions.

New presentation of artworks

The Middelheim Museum is breathing new life into its art park. In 2023 and 2024, many sculptures are given a new, well thought-out place in the art park, along with better interpretation and signage. There will also be a new publicly accessible open-air repository for sculptures which are temporarily not displayed in the collection presentation. In the renewed presentation, extra attention is paid to the landscape elements and the special heritage value of the Middelheim site. Thus, people, art, nature and heritage will come even closer together.
